Writing Tomorrow’s Top Three Before You End Today

There’s a reason tomorrow feels lighter when you plan it the night before.
One of the simplest habits I recommend to anyone feeling overwhelmed is this: before you end your day, write down tomorrow’s top three priorities. Not ten. Not everything. Just three.
Why the Top Three Works
Your brain is not meant to hold endless open loops. When you end the day without clarity, your mind keeps working overnight — replaying tasks, worries, and unfinished plans. Writing your top three closes those loops.
It also:
Reduces decision fatigue in the morning
Increases follow-through
Creates momentum before the day even begins
How to Choose Your Top Three
Your top three should be:
Specific (not “work on project,” but “outline section one”)
Realistic for the energy you’ll have
Impactful, not just urgent
If everything feels important, ask: If I only finished three things tomorrow, what would move my life forward the most?
When to Write Them
The best time is before you shut down for the night:
At the end of your workday
During your evening reset
As part of a wind-down routine
This small habit creates a sense of completion — even on imperfect days.
The Bigger Impact
Over time, this practice builds trust with yourself. You stop waking up scattered and start waking up focused. And focus, when repeated daily, changes everything.
